“There’s this mentality: If you help the private sector, you’re engaging in corporate welfare,” said Robert Selna, vice president of the Oakland Builders Alliance trade organization and a real estate lawyer whose eponymous law firm has worked with many of the developers active in Oakland today. “There is an astounding lack of activity on that council and the Mayor’s Office at a time when you’d expect there to be efforts being made.”
